Just 40 minutes from Vancouver by ferry, but centuries away in ecosystems, the Sunshine Coast has been described as "the Hawaii of Canada". This magnificent Pacific Ocean coastline is blessed with warm temperatures throughout the year and one of the highest levels of year-round sunlight in B.C.

The temperate climate encourages a rich variety of wild and cultured plant life-from wild mushrooms to towering fir, cedar and hemlock.

As you travel the coast you will realize that this is an ecological paradise. The water is clear and clean and sea and bird life of all types abound. Naturally, the sea plays a large role in all our residents' lives.

If you enjoy boating, you've discovered heaven. From the many marinas, or perhaps moorage right in front of your home, an incredible variety of coastline awaits exploration; and you can still catch a salmon from within 10 minutes of almost any launching or mooring facility.

A forty minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay to the Sunshine Coast, or a 30 minute flight from downtown Vancouver to Sechelt; make the trip and see what the excitement is all about.

The Sunshine Coast presents a bounty of recreational diversity to keep anyone busy from dusk to dawn, all year long.

Golf enthusiasts will be enraptured by the beauty, wildlife and surprisingly affordable green fees. The Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club includes the additional charm of three spawning creeks for trout and salmon, and four ponds that act as a sanctuary for its indigenous birds. Blue Ocean Golf Club in Sechelt Golf is a newer course with large, well bunkered greens, while Pender Habour Golf Club offers an inviting club house as well as dramatic views of plunging fairways.

Area scuba divers are offered crystal clear water, untainted by industrial pollution or major river silt deposits. Considered one of North America's prime diving destinations, water temperatures below 30 feet hold at a constant seven degrees centigrade. Marine life includes the world's largest octopi, wolf eels, and a full variety of fish; a diver's paradise in your own backyard.

Additional watersports include sport fishing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, and windsurfing. Dry land activity includes scenic hikes for all athletic levels. Rich blue-green mountains rising from a rugged shoreline, coastal skies, commanding water views; sights to take your breath away await from almost every Sunshine Coast trail.
